Supporting 108 Women Committees

Women’s Committees are local committees formed by local women with the mandate of promoting social interaction and community participation. The committees play a vital role in mobilizing women and financial activities and also carrying out small-scale activities in response to the needs of the households and the community

In remote areas of Gorkha, women continue to face socio-economic limitations that hinder them from empowered lives. Although they are actively involved in community life, most women committee lack the infrastructure and resources to implement effective programs or generate sustainable income. This economic limitation bars them from actualizing their potential, and their dependency on external support usually halts progress. In view of this challenge, the project “Supporting 108 Women Committees” was initiated with the aim of strengthening the foundation of these committees by means of material support and economic empowerment.

Under this project, 108 women committees in Gorkha will be supported with basic items such as tables, chairs, tent, speaker and kitchen items. These materials will not only supplement their regular committee activities but will also allow them to earn a livelihood by renting out the equipment for neighborhood events like weddings and festivals. The aim of the project is to empower the women’s committees of Gorkha by providing them with necessary material support that foster the local development, and sustainable livelihood creation.

Sambhav Nepal has been working closely with the communities in Gorkha, particularly the rural and mountainous communities. Through field visits of projects, the organization has witnessed the dedication of women’s committees who day and night work to bring positive changes in their communities with scarce resources. These committees find it difficult to organize community events and raise funds to implement their activities. Realizing these challenges, Sambhav Nepal developed the idea of providing these women’s committees with required inputs, not only to meet their needs, but also to create sustainable livelihood opportunities.

In this regard, Sambhav Nepal initiated the “Supporting 108 Women Committees” Project to empower 108 registered women’s committees in the rural and mountainous areas of Gorkha. Each committee will receive tents, speakers, chairs, tables, and a complete kitchen set of utensils. The equipment will be used for meetings, training, and communal events, and also rented out for social celebrations like weddings and festivals, earning small-scale incomes for the committees. The project should directly impact over 10,000 women, empowering them with resources to support their committee work.
