Shree Darbar Secondary School

Shree Darbar Secondary School was established in 1960 A.D. (2017 B.S.) by the local community located in Aarughat Rural Municipality-08, Gorkha District which was formerly under Aarughat Village Development Committee before Nepal’s Federalization.

As there was no school in ward 7 and students had to travel a long distance as much as 1 or 1 and half hour to reach the nearest school. Hence, the local community converted the historical “Main Babu Shah Palace” into a temporary classroom, calling it, “Darbar School” after the palace itself. After the 2015 earthquake, the infrastructure of Shree Darbar Secondary School was demolished. In response the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) extended their support and built a new concrete building in 2017/2018 A.D. (2074/75 B.S.). Currently, the School runs from Nursery to Grade 12 with a total of 292 students (147 boys & 145 girls) as of now.  Shree Darbar Secondary School is a crucial asset for the local children today, as it is the only school in the area that offers education up to grade 12. Without the school, children would have to make long journey to continue their education.

Shree Darbar Secondary School has been educational hub for the students of Ward 7 and 8 for decades. The existing school building is not sufficient to accommodate the students. Few classes are conducted in open areas and the newly formed KG group is housed in an unhealthy, old building. The school lacks the proper sanitation, proper canteen and the toilets are also insufficient for the students and staffs. Due to the complex geographical configuration and lack of special area for programs and seminars students have been facing the problems regarding to involvement in extra curriculum activities

The primary objective of this project is to enhance the infrastructure of Shree Darbar Secondary School and promote the learning process. Scheduled to start from 25th Magh 2080 and end to 25th Magh 2082, the project will entail the construction of three more classrooms, a new toilet with individual facilities for boys, girls, and staff, and a multi-purpose hall for extra-curricular activities, seminars, and community activities. A new canteen with kitchen will also be built to offer hygienic food and proper space for students to have their lunch. The project will also provide essential materials to enhance the overall teaching-learning process of the school. By this, the project aims towards quality improvement of education and setting an improved ambience for studies as well as extracurricular development.

Motivated by a sense of responsibility and personal connection, Prem k Khatrya school alumnus felt a strong desire to give it back. Thus, Sambhav Nepal has stepped forward to provide the necessary support to enhance the school’s infrastructure. We are especially grateful to Melanie Kreuzer, founder of Sambhav Nepal Schweiz, for her generous support for making the project possible.
