In this modern era of technological advancement, technology has been an integral part of our lives. However, even in this era of scientific and digital advancement, most of the public schools in rural Nepal are still struggling hard because of the lack of even basic digital infrastructure. While the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education has been shown to render learning environments more interactive, accessible, and productive, most of the schools continue to rely solely on traditional methods of teaching due to the lack of digital infrastructure, limiting students’ exposure to modern learning tools.
Since technology-based education has the potential to enhance teaching methods and pedagogy, the Government of Nepal has made various initiatives for technology-based education. Yet, in economically marginalized and remote areas, actual implementation of such initiatives remains low, mainly due to economic constraints. As a result, teachers and students in those places are unable to benefit from the opportunities of modern pedagogical practices, which, as a result, widens the gap between rural and urban education
In response to these challenges, this project has been initiated. This project aims to enhance digital literacy by leveraging technology in classrooms, making learning more inclusive and interactive so that every child has an equal opportunity for quality education and a bright future.
Sambhav Nepal has been working closely in Gorkha District for many years, particularly in remote and rural communities, to improve the quality of education and community development. During field visits and interactions, the organization identified a pressing need for technology-based education in public schools. Many schools continue to rely solely on traditional methods of teaching due to the lack of digital infrastructure, limiting students’ exposure to modern learning tools.
In response to this need, Sambhav Nepal has initiated an ICT Material Support Project aimed at supporting public schools in the rural areas of the Gorkha District. The project will equip schools with essential Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment such as desktop computers, laptops, projectors, etc.
By incorporating ICT into the regular curriculum, the initiative aims to improve digital literacy, enhance teaching efficiency, and prepare students for a technology-driven world.

Community and Local Government Support
The project has received strong support from both the local government and the community. The local government helped with coordination, communication, and overall facilitation during the implementation process, and the community people have actively participated in identifying the needs and supported the smooth distribution of materials
Project Sustainability
To ensure long-term impact, this project emphasizes ownership, training, and practical integration of ICT into daily school activities. Teachers will be trained and encouraged to use the materials regularly, making technology a consistent part of the classroom. Schools will be responsible for the proper use and maintenance of the distributed materials. This continuous use will not only improve digital skills but also allow the impact of the project to last well into the future.
Progress Update- May 2025
As of now, we have successfully distributed necessary materials to the two schools: Shree Bhairabi Primary School and Shree Dharapani Secondary School. The distribution was need-based, identified during the preliminary assessment, and as per the specific demand from the schools. The distribution was conducted in each school in the presence of representatives from the local government, the school management committees, Sambhav Nepal, and the local people.
The table below outlines the necessary details of the distribution:
S. N | Distributed Items | Quantity | No of beneficiaries | Remarks |
Shree Bhairabi Primary School | Shree Dharapani Secondary School |
1 | Desktop Computer with accessories | 3 | 7 | The total number of beneficiaries from both schools is approximately 1000, including both teachers and students | In each school, the distribution was held on 18 May 2025, slightly later than the project timeline due to the ongoing teachers’ strike. |
2 | Desktop computer table set | 3 | 7 |
3 | UPS | 3 | 7 |
4 | Laptop with accessories | 5 | 7 |
5 | Large Stabilizer for power control | 1 | 1 |
6 | Projectors with screens | 2 | 5 |
7 | Printer | 1 | 0 |
8 | WIFI-Router | 2 | 2 |
We extend our sincere gratitude to the donors for making this project possible. Their generous contribution has not only provided essential digital tools but has also played a vital role in promoting digital literacy in the rural communities of Gorkha. With additional funding, we aim to expand our support to more schools across the district, ensuring broader access to technology-enabled learning.
