About Villages
There are 75 districts in Nepal and Gorkha is one of those at an area of 3610 square kilometres, in the east of Gorkha it's connected with Dhading District and Tibet. In the west it's connected with 3 different districts of Nepal Tanahu, Lamjung and Manang. At the North Gorkha is only connected with Tibet while at the south it's connected with Chitwan, Tanahu and Dhading. The geography elevation throughout Gorkha ranges from 488 meters to a massive 8516 meters.
As this is one of the three major areas in Nepal seriously affected by the Civil War in 1995, the government has made no effort to show any support for economical change.
Currently there are 3914 Village Development Committees within Nepal. Gorkha alone houses 66 village development committees including Arupokhari and Aruchanaute, covering around 30 villages. Compared to some other villages within the Gorkha district, Arupokhari and Aruchanaute villages are not that far from head quarters of Gorkha District, although one of the most remote areas within the Gorkha Region.
The local community is still very committed to ancient old traditions and cultural heritage we believe in maintaining these traditions while focusing on moving forward with the necessary facilities, Education and Health services. There are a variety of different Castes within the Arupokhari and Aruchanaute villages, ranging from the lowest to the highest cast.
People within these areas are uneducated, conservative and very poor, the older generation never had the option for quality education with most generally working in fields or doing labour work. Which is normally just enough support and to feed their family with nothing left for children's education or health requirements.
The few government schools that do exist in these remote areas are often ramshackle collections of crumbling bricks, loose metal sheets and dirt floors, with below basic education standards. Although these structures are no longer safe for children, they continue to be used because the community has no alternative. Young adult face many problems in obtaining jobs, once they have completed their education, as none of the students would have ever seen or touched a computer.
There is no equipped Health Post that exists within Arupokhari and Aruchanaute areas.
The Sambhav Nepal foundation has chosen these remote villages within the Gorkha Region as they offer inadequate Nepalese standards of schooling and Health services. The available source of drinking water covers 66%, while only 9% use toilets. As Prem K Kharti is originally from this area and his purpose is to bring sustainable change and brighter futures for each of the village men, women and children.
Remote isolated areas of Nepal are often the last thought-of when it comes to developing or providing quality education or health services. |
