We are committed to providing the women of Nepal with vocational skills to enable them to become self reliant.
Basic life skills and Handicraft Classes we offer are:
1. The ability to learn to Read and Write
2. Sewing and embroidery
3. Recycled Buffalo/Cow Dung produces paper, photo albums, notebooks and cards
4. Produces gas system for a family by using cow and buffalo Dung and help to save forest from using fire woods.
5. Buys a solar panel for a family to produce electricity.
We believe this to be a very effective skill for the village people. As there is a massive amount of Buffalo/Cow dung we plan to put it o good use and to recycle it into creative paper, cards, photo albums, picture frames etc. Producing a quality sellable product enables the village economy to rise. The making of handmade papers demands alertness, proper space, good equipment, time and most of all imagination and creativity.
Our plan is to build a number of stone community toilets as there are only 9% of the Gorkha community using toilets facilities. Currently many locals use the fields or they have make shift toilets made from wood that require rebuilding every 3 months, with no run off area.
The cooking system in the remote areas is done by using a wood fire, cooking this way is terribly inefficient, it exacerbates deforestation, burdens women and children with the task of collecting excessive amounts of wood, and fills kitchens with smoke which in turn contributes to many women suffering serious respiratory ailments as there is no proper ventilation for the smoke to escape, leaving them to breath in fumes. All walls and roof of a traditional Nepalese house is covered in black soot from all the smoke fumes over the years, the number of lung disease cases continues to rise. Our plan involves a major change to the cooking system and also to their health. By using cow and/or buffalo dung to produce enough gas emissions to fire a gas stove burner this will enable a safe and healthy environment for cooking.
In order to keep the community clean and free of rubbish we will set up two local community areas that contains, two large cement and stone rubbish areas. The first will be a big compost area for food scrapes, paper and cardboard etc. The other will be for the non recyclable items like plastic.
We are committed to journeys of discovery, exploration and awareness. By offering the services to tech these skills the women will experience a sense self confidence to learn and improve their chances to become self reliant, while creating positive community change.
The proposed project is for evening lessons for the women that have interests in one of the above mentioned classes. By providing a number of different classes in a variety of areas the community will be networking together. Each of the workshops will be constructed in a way that only produces quality products for future re-sale options. |
